This multi-level backyard in San Luis Obispo, CA started with a funky concrete landing on the second story with no usable space, an obtrusive angled staircase and a series of unattractive retaining walls. After a major renovation, this space now boasts a beautiful mahogany Azek composite deck that includes custom built-in seating and a gas fire pit, and capitalizes on expansive views of the surrounding valley and peaks. A new set of steps carry the composite decking from the upper to lower levels, and the clean lines of stainless steel cable railing with ipe handrails enhances the upscale, modern aesthetic. A redwood wrap screens signs of what the space once looked like, and compliments the newly constructed redwood fence. A stainless steel cable trellis and border plantings soften up the side yard, and low-voltage LED step and deck lights bring the entire space to life in the evening
